Activities
Head of the Marine and Coastal Ecosystems Centre (MarCEC), leading efforts on monitoring important habitats, restoring endangered species, conducting scientific diving activities, monitoring non-indigenous species, and developing strategies for sustainable tourism practices. In this role, he initiates, develops, and implements research activities in marine and coastal ecosystems, supervises and trains junior, assistant, and associate researchers, and contributes to postgraduate supervision.

Expertise in marine biodiversity assessment and ecosystem monitoring, with a strong focus on marine conservation, restoration, and the management of non-indigenous species (NIS). Extensive experience in scientific diving and the design and implementation of field surveys, complemented by the use of remote sensing, GIS, and seabed mapping technologies.
Proven experience in project development, proposal writing, and coordination of national and international initiatives. Demonstrated leadership in supervising and training research teams, as well as building capacity within multidisciplinary environments.
Experience in stakeholder engagement and operating at the science–policy interface, including the development of conservation strategies and sustainable tourism approaches. Active in science communication, public outreach, and the creation of educational programmes and materials.
