Activities
My primary research focuses on the history of Scandinavian marine science in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with particular emphasis on physical and chemical oceanography in the Baltic Sea, Skagerrak, and Kattegat. I am also interested in Swedish and Norwegian Arctic expeditions of the same period, particularly in how hydrographic knowledge and oceanographic practices were shaped within their scientific and institutional contexts.
Alongside my historical research, I have a strong interest in ocean literacy, especially in how marine and oceanographic knowledge is framed and communicated within educational and societal settings. I am also engaged with issues of research data management within the marine sciences, including the collection, standardization, preservation, and reuse of oceanographic data, as well as the role of data infrastructures in shaping marine scientific research.
I am a member of the National Ocean Literacy Network, overseen by the Swedish Institute for the Marine Environment; the National Polar Research Network, coordinated by the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat; and the International Commission for the History of Oceanography.
