Activities
As an Environmental Analyst with the Fisheries Scientific Survey Division (FSSD) of the Fisheries Commission, Ghana, my work is focused on supporting sustainable fisheries management and marine ecosystem conservation through rigorous oceanographic monitoring, fisheries data collection, and scientific analysis. My responsibilities span field operations, data analysis, research, and capacity building, integrating both in-situ measurements and remote sensing technologies to inform evidence-based decision-making.
I lead and support national marine and oceanographic surveys across Ghana’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), deploying multiparameter instruments to measure sea surface temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and other key indicators for ecosystem health and fish productivity. In collaboration with the Ghana Meteorological Agency and the University of Ghana under the GMES Africa Initiative, I integrate satellite-derived data with in-situ measurements to enhance forecast accuracy and marine condition assessments.
My work includes fisheries resource assessments, plankton and biological sampling, species identification, and DNA barcoding for genetic reference library development. I process and analyze data to produce technical reports, marine advisories, and decision-support tools for artisanal and industrial fishers.
I actively contribute to national and regional research projects, including fish genetics, mitogenomics, and phylogenetics, and have participated in international training programs such as COESSING Summer School and Remote Sensing Applied to Oceanography. I also engage in capacity-building workshops to strengthen ocean observation and fisheries monitoring skills.
Additionally, my work supports policy formulation and marine spatial planning, particularly for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), closed fishing seasons, and habitat protection, through science-based stakeholder engagement with government agencies, NGOs, fishing communities, and international partners.
Skills
I possess strong expertise in marine and fisheries science, with specialized skills in oceanographic data collection, analysis, and environmental monitoring. My experience spans fisheries resource management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable marine governance. I am proficient in gathering, processing, and validating oceanographic parameters such as sea surface temperature, salinity, and chlorophyll concentrations, using advanced tools including multiparameter probes, remote sensing datasets, GIS applications, and ocean forecasting systems.
I have demonstrated technical competence in molecular biology techniques, including DNA barcoding and mitogenomic analysis, for species identification and phylogenetic studies. My background includes integrating molecular and ecological datasets to support conservation planning and fisheries management.
In addition, I bring strong capabilities in remote sensing, applying satellite-derived data to assess marine conditions and support ecosystem-based management. My work reflects a solid track record in scientific research, data validation, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building through national and international collaborations.
