I have a strong interest in developing datasets, techniques, and tools that support the assessment and management of disaster risk. In the past, I developed catastrophe models for a global reinsurance broker working with catastrophe managers to estimate the financial effects of disasters for a number of nations in the Asia Pacific region. My work mostly dealt with water-related hazards, such as tsunamis, storm surges, and inland and coastal floods.
My doctoral research at IUSS Pavia, Italy focused on the use of machine learning to make probablistic hazard and risk assessment computationally efficient, leading to 30x gains when applied to high resolution local tsunami studies for Sicily, Italy and Tohoku, Japan.
I have a Masters's Degree in Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering and a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, and am proficient in hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling, catastrophic risk assessment, GIS, and programming. Through my research, I focus on various disaster risk concerns and attempt to address them by utilizing hydrodynamics, machine learning, hazard and risk assessment.
