Research into pathogens of a variety of aquatic animals and to develop methods for the characterisation, detection and control of these pathogens.

• The ability to exercise sound judgement and interpretive ability where work is governed by rules and regulations, commercial business practice and legislation. Past practice and precedent are often helpful.

• Skills to deliver valued high quality results within deadlines including effective time management to plan, monitor and manage work for a number of different contracts. This requires a flexible and adaptable way of working, valuing people, behaving professionally with scientific integrity.

• Knowledge of the appropriate specialism and innovation in problem solving  and decision making on how to meet business objectives within a discrete work area in the most effective way.

• Effective collaboration and active communication (with a broad range of people at different levels (both inside and outside the organisation)) including clear, fluent written and verbal communication.

• Good drafting, numeracy, IT skills and specialist/ professional knowledge where appropriate. You must be meticulous with good attention to detail.

• Working knowledge of biosecurity requirements and practices.

• Practical competence and theoretical understanding of Microbiology diagnostic techniques, fish husbandry and dissections.
