Activities
I research the applications of open-source data in modeling and assessing marine and coastal georesources in the Mediterranean Sea, the Aqaba Gulf, and the Red Sea in the MENA region. I use the tools and dataset of the Marine Copernicus Service in evaluating the marine and coastal ecosystems as well as mapping the offshore resources. Along with research, I have launched a recent initiative to educate emergency professionals on the use of oceanographic information in managing oil spill disasters and plastic pollution in the marine environment.

I am a certified blue economy professional with specialties in blue carbon, blue farming, and blue business development. I am also certified competent in the prevention and combating of marine pollution (STCW 1987) from the Jordanian Academy of Maritime Studies. I have a strong interest in using Earth observation and ocean data in the best management practice framework for ocean mapping and marine resource conservation in the MENA region. In my view, ocean data is a valuable asset to the process of sustainability decision-making. It didn't take me long to realize the importance and essence of ocean data in implementing the MED POL Program for the Assessment and Control of Marine Pollution in the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, my interest in ocean conservation was initially sparked right after completing a 40-hour professional development course on marine litter (expert level). The training really helped me explore a wealth of information about the blue world. With ocean data, I could finally see the shocking unseen picture and re-read the untold story about plastic pollution. Soon, I went on a start-up mission to train young scientists on marine plastic inventory as well as exchange knowledge with specialists and peers on the potential impacts of microplastics on the environment, public health, and economy. I joined the Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML) and signed the Clean Seas pledge to speak up to end plastic pollution. In this pledge, I called on local municipalities, manufacturers, retailers, governments, schools, and places of worship to reduce their plastic footprint and protect our aquatic resources. I have also become intensely engaged in global advocacy for ocean literacy and climate crisis education. I emphasize Earth observation technology in my speeches as a revolutionary approach to enhancing awareness of the ocean-climate relationship for planetary resiliency and sustainability. My work is continuously published in local symposiums, workshops, and conferences in local languages, with the hope of inspiring and calling on the young generation to join my mission.
