I am a marine biodiversity scientist and biodiversity informatician, currently the Head of Geobiodiversity Information and Data Management at the Senckenberg Data and Modelling Centre and an associate professor at Goethe University Frankfurt. My research focuses on global marine biodiversity, macroecology, biogeography, taxonomy, and the use of large-scale biodiversity data to understand the patterns and drivers of species distributions. I work extensively with GBIF and OBIS and contribute to international biodiversity initiatives including IPBES, DiSSCo, TDWG, CETAF, and NFDI4Biodiversity. My work combines ecological research with biodiversity data management, open science, computational methods, and emerging approaches such as machine learning. I also have more than 15 years of experience in teaching and mentoring in marine biodiversity and biodiversity informatics.
