This onsite training course will introduce the cutting-edge strategies, methods and tools on sea level rise and climate change research at global and regional levels, share experience in combating climate change and sea level rise and application in China and the Southeast Asian region, inspire discussion on the role of climate change in realizing the sustainable development goals for the ocean.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the participants should be able to:

Improve knowledge of the status and trends of international climate change.

Better understand the scientific mechanisms of sea level rise and grasp the cause and effect relationship between climate change and sea level rise.

Improve skills in designing framework balancing ecological protection and economic development.
Target audience & requisites
The course is focused on: (1) Research personnel (those who are engaging in ocean science and ocean management research in universities or research institutes for more than 2 years, and have a bachelor degree or higher), and (2) Government employees (those who are engaging in ocean science research and/or ocean management for government for more than 2 years, and have a bachelor degree or higher).

Organizers
This course is organized by RTC China – National Marine Data and Information Service & National Center of Ocean Standards and Metrology, in cooperation with the China-ASEAN Countries Training Course on Marine Information Technologies, funded by the Asian Cooperation Fund.
Course Duration
The course has a total of 7 days, 6 hours per day, a total of 36hours of training course, except for opening and closing ceremony.
Certificate
OTGA Certificate will be awarded to the participants upon successful completion of
- The attendance rate is greater than or equal to 80 percent;
- Actively ask and answer questions in class; and
- Submit a study report before the closing ceremony.

Documents requested
- One recommendation letter from the employer of applicant;
- Application form with a photo attached (in WORD VERSION);
- Research results and CV can be attached, and scholarships are available for the best candidates.
The applications start on 1 March 2025. The deadline to submit the application is 4 April 2025.
Selection criteria
UNESCO is committed to promoting equal access principles. Applications from minority or underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged.
Selection will be based on:
- Good command of English language skills
- Bachelor degree or above
- Research outcomes can be included in the email attachment
Costs
Free of charge. There are no tuition fees.
Due to financial constraints, only participants from South-East Asian countries will be provided with (full or partial) financial support after selected, while participants from other regions are requested to cover their own airfare.
