Company Profile

Marine Spatial Information Solutions (MarSIS) Inc., founded in 2014, is a company specializing in environmental drone mapping, geospatial analysis and participatory resource management across the Caribbean. Led by Dr. Kim Baldwin, MarSIS delivers cutting-edge geospatial solutions that empower communities, non-profit organisations and governments to make informed environmental management decisions. MarSIS uses advanced UAS platforms, such as the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise Multispectral, with RTK/PPK positioning and multispectral sensors, to provide high-accuracy data for a variety of environmental management, fisheries and agricultural applications across the Caribbean and California.

Approach

At MarSIS, we focus on integrating Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) technology with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create high-accuracy spatial data. Out approach applies a participatory approach to engage a wide range of stakeholders, from local communities to policymakers, to get involved in the environmental management processes to foster sustainable development and equitable outcomes. Our services align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those addressing poverty alleviation, climate change adaptation and inclusive resource management.

• Environmental Drone Mapping & Monitoring: High-precision data collection using advanced drones like the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and Phantom 4 series, with a focus on agriculture, coastal ecosystems, and disaster risk management.

• Participatory GIS and UAS: Collaborating with stakeholders to engage in data collection and decision-making, ensuring that our work reflects local needs and promotes long-term sustainability.

• Training Programs: Providing specialized training in drone operations, geospatial analysis, and environmental monitoring, including commercial drone certifications both in-person and online.

• Disaster Risk Management: Offering drone-based post-disaster assessments, including marine and fisheries infrastructure mapping, livelihood assessments and environmental impact evaluations.

Founder & Director

Dr. Kim Baldwin, the sole owner and operator of MarSIS Inc., has over 20 years of experience in the Caribbean, with a PhD and MSc. in environmental management, marine ecology, fisheries, participatory mapping and GIS technology. She holds a teaching credential and advanced certifications in UAS ‘drone’ operations and has gained international recognition, including as a National Geographic Ocean Explorer.
