Liga de Fomento faro José Ignacio is an ego that was created 65 years ago. Its mission is to take care of the territory, the community and it's sustainable development. The territory is on the Atlantic coast of eastern Uruguay, from the Atlantic Ocean to National route 9 and from Laguna José Ignacio to Laguna Garzòn. José Ignacio is a small village on the sea but the entropic pressure of tourism is menacing it's identity and integrity, and combining that to climate change the difficulties of our mission are increasingly challenging. Our ong is based on volunteer work, the budget comes from the annual membership and we take care of all sorts of problems, from conservation of nature, control of the constructing rules, local education helping kindergarten and local rural schools, traffic, health helping the local policlinic and organizing courses for the inhabitants , firemen, policemen, beach rescue devices, management of a nearby natural protected area (Laguna Garzòn) etc.
