Activities

The Instituto Geofísico do Infante D. Luiz (IGIDL) is a public body integrated in the University of Lisbon. IGIDL originated from the Infante D Luiz Meteorological Observatotiry established at the Polytechnical School in 1853. Located at the heart if the Botanic Garden, IGIDL includes laboratories of General Geophysics, Seismology, Meteorology, Climatology and Solar Radiation. In particular IGIDL mainatins the oldest meteorological series of Portugal. IGIDL also has a library and documentation center where some of the most significant scientific journals are available. IGIDL develops and cooperates in research initiatives, and with teaching and research activities organized by the University of Lisbon. It also hosts technical and scientific scholarships and prepares for the public or the public authorities information related with the meteorological and seismological phenomena.
