As an investigator my interests center around marine mammals. I have mainly focused on physiological adaptations to living in the marine environment. I work primarily with captive marine mammals, and training, husbandry, and public education are additional areas of specialization. I have trained and handled a variety of marine mammals including phocids, otariids, and cetaceans. I have worked with stranded and wild dolphins. My current work focuses in Monterey Bay, CA but I have worked also on the east coast of the US. Currently I run a small teaching aquarium that focuses on preparing college students for careers working with animals, especially marine animals.
