Skills/Expertise 1. Ecology and eco-physiology of coastal phytoplankton, including biomass and primary production measurements and taxonomic identification; 2. Harmful Algal Blooms, including ecology of toxic phytoplankton species and study of nuisance phenomena such as red tides and gelatinous macroaggregates; 3. Pollution related problems: mainly eutrophication of coastal sea due to land-based sources 4. Monitoring activities: national monitoring program for the quality of coastal sea, national monitoring program of toxic phytoplankton species at mariculture areas; 5. Implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) and Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2008/56/EC) in the national environmental policy.
