Degree PhD
Research Activities

I am a marine community ecologist with a wide interest in benthic biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and food-web ecology, specialized in deep-sea environments and the biology and ecology of meiofauna and nematodes. Current research projects aim at understanding what drives benthic diversity and how it affects marine sediment functions with links to important processes such as biogeochemical cycling and food-web flows and the assessment of anthropogenic and climate-change impacts. I believe in strong science-policy communication, the integration of socio-economic research in environmental science, and open-access policies.

The core of my current research focuses on meiofauna; abundant micro-organisms present in all marine ecosystems, which play a pivotal role in many key processes and functions. Despite their ecological importance, they are often overlooked and many aspects of their biology and ecology are still unknown.
