Research Activities Started in Mozambique in 2002 in Inhambane Province through the National Fisheries Research Institute of Mozambique (IIP) describing the artisanal fishery of Prawn in the Inhambane Bay. He did several jobs for World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF Mozambique) as a consultant in the characterization of fishing activity in the Districts of Angoche, Moma and Pebane and in the establishment of a monitoring program for the proposed Marine Protected Area of “Primeiras and Segundas Islands”. He collaborated with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in the project "Preliminary Research on Fish Spawning Aggregation in Mozambique". He has been participating in several courses like Marine Fisheries Assessment with Professor Cadima from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO). With these experiences he has a good knowledgment in tropical fisheries biology, assessment and management. He worked also in Azores Islands in tuna fishing vessels as observer to aiming to classify those fisheries as “Dolphin Safe” for Oceanography and Fisheries Department (DOP) of the University of Azores on the framework of the Fisheries Observation Program (POPA). He is a PADI Rescue Diver since 2002 and diver since 1996. His last work in 2013 was the Baseline survey on socio-economic benefits of artisanal tuna fishery in Mozambique for WWF.

Skills/Expertise Rodrigo Santos has a degree in Marine Biology and Fisheries in Faculty of Marine Science and Environment of the University of Algarve, Portugal (UAlg). He was holder in the research project GeoCrust - Use of Satellite GPS Data to Map Effort and Landings of the Portuguese Crustacean Fleet, under the coordination of Prof. Manuel Afonso Dias.
