A member of the United Kingdom’s delegation attending sessions with the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) at the United Nations, New York, during the defense of two of the four UK submissions, namely the Celtic Shelf and Ascension Island. Following the successful completion of the joint submission for the Celtic Shelf , I continue to support the FCO as technical adviser in relation to delimitation of the area of continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles as part of the UK delegation during negotiations with Ireland, France and Spain. I have provided advice on interpretation and implementation of UNCLOS Article 76 to more than 20 foreign governments, which resulted in the completion of a number of submissions for continental shelf. I was also a member of the Barbados delegation during the defense of her submission. In addition to maritime space definition, I provide advice relating to Marine Scientific Research, in accordance with Part XIII of UNCLOS, in particular in relation to information included in diplomatic clearances for research expeditions managed by the NOC. As an experienced seafloor surveyor, having participated on a number of research and commercial surveys, with extensive experience in multibeam bathymetry data acquisition and processing, and in 3D visualization of marine geophysical data, I am also involved in a number of projects relating to surveying of the seafloor. The first of which relates to a United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) driven initiative which hopes to address issues relating to data shortfall in the United Kingdom Overseas Territories. This is an extension to my interests in the UK Overseas Territories where I wish to understanding the environmental health and mineral wealth of these areas. The second relates to a major EU program namely EMODnet Bathymetry. The overall objective is to create pilots to migrate fragmented and inaccessible marine data into interoperable, continuous and publicly available data streams for complete maritime basins.
