Degree PhD
Job type Research
Research Area(s) Biological Oceanography, Marine Ecology , Fisheries, Aquaculture , Biological Oceanography, Marine Ecology , Fisheries, Aquaculture
Research Activities Ichthyology, marine ecology, essential fish habitat, estuarine ecology, Paralichthys dentatus, Mustelus canis, Pomatomus saltatrix, Anarhichas lupus. Description of the food habits and trophic interactions among NW Atlantic shelf fishes. Autecological studies of NW Atlantic fishes. I'm interested in community structure, and habitat use, particularly of estuarine fishes and decapods. One of my main interests is on trophic linkages among salt marsh, estuarine, coastal shelf and deep sea systems. Examine diel, tidal and seasonal migration behavior, andenvironmental triggers for this behavior. I'm very interested in correlations between habitat shifts, and ontogenetic shifts in diet. I'm also interested in fish use of artifical structure, particularly fish-aggregation-devices (FADs). I also work with pelagic fish behavior, such as shoaling/schooling behavior and fish-jellyfish symbioses. A recent interest is fish calling behavior (soniferous, vocalization, sound production) and the use of passive acoustic technologies for the identification of essential fish habitats by monitoring calling fishes.
Research Region N.W. Atlantic
Skills/Expertise fish ecology, passive acoustics, underwater sounds, estuarine ecology, fish behavior, ichthyology, soundscape ecology
