PROFESSIONAL DATA

Skills/Expertise Dr Eric Dombrowsky joined Mercator Océan in Jan. 2007 as Scientific and Technical Director. His scientific background is physical oceanography and ocean data assimilation. He is an active member of the EU-FP7 MyOcean 2 project which aims at implementing the monitoring and forecasting component of the GMES Marine Service. Within this project he is leader of the Global Monitoring and Forecasting Centre dealing with the provision of products for the global ocean. He is co-chair of GODAE OceanView which is an international initiative to internationally organise the scientific coordination of the development of operational oceanography systems, and which is following up the Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment (GODAE) started in 1997 that ended in 2008. Before joining Mercator Océan, he worked at CLS in the Space Oceanography Division, which he joined in 1991. He took in 2003 the Head of the Operational Oceanography Department of CLS Space Oceanography Division. At CLS, he has been involved in the development of the French Navy Operational Ocean Forecast System (SOAP) as scientific coordinator since 1993 until 2006. He has been involved in several EU-funded projects dealing with operational oceanography and he worked for Mercator since its start in 1995, on the scientific and technical coordination of the operational system development.
