Research Activities At ENSAFO Group, our specialization is in mapping and applications for land, environment, water, marine and maritime domain in general. We are cognizant of the fact that water, land and marine applications are critically linked to agriculture, security, conflicts, infrastructure, disasters and environment in Africa. The Group is also a leader in provision of technical oceanographic consultancy within the Western Indian Ocean region (and of Horn of Africa) and also a pioneer in applications for Maritime Safety domain. It is also engaged in monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, project management, community organization, management training, feasibility studies, project formulations, and strategic plan development.

Skills/Expertise TECHNICAL SKILLS: Earth Observation Application for Oceanographic and Integrated Water Resource Management. Projects and Consultancy assignments have been undertaken with key International players in the Earth Observation (EO) Industry, i.e. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), European Space Agency (ESA), European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. Coastal Oceanographic processes including dynamical oceanography, hydrodynamic modeling, Environmental Monitoring and Marine Remote Sensing applications gained at the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute during 16 years of Scientific Research. All projects were innovatively crafted to address and solve pertinent environmental issues and/or problems that supported the sustainable utilization and exploitation of marine fishery resources. MANAGEMENT SKILLS: Research Project management involving conception, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and closing; Developing Strategic planning in area of Environmental monitoring (Marine and Water); Managerial skills including organization, coordination, administration and planning of research projects including Financial management. LEADERSHIP SKILLS: Driver of Space- based technology diffusion, transfer and integration in Africa for applications in Integrated Water Resource Management and Marine applications including related Capacity Building efforts. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Experience as Technical Editor for The Western Indian Ocean Waters (WINDOW) newsletter in 1998.
