The Seychelles Land Transport Agency originated in 1974 as the Public Works Department (PWD) which it was comprised of government offices and was responsible for construction of road infrastructures.
With most roads having been constructed during the first settlement, it was important that there was a need for a proper development in planning and implementation of the road facilities in Seychelles.
